Another round of summer events have been cancelled as a result of the novel coronavirus.

In light of the pandemic, all Hanover Ag Fair activity has been suspended all activity for the summer. President Curtis Dawydiuk says there were big plans to commemorate the fair’s 75th anniversary so the decision to pull the plug was not easy. However, he notes, it was done with the health and safety of visitors in mind.

In looking at the Manitoba government’s plan to gradually reopen the province, Dawydiuk realized that hosting such a large event this summer would be entirely unfeasible.

“We would not be able to have the gathering sizes that the fair would bring,” he states.

Rather than completely cancelling their milestone celebration, they have postponed the festivities. Dawydiuk adds that George Canyon, this year's headlining performer, has already marked August 19-22, 2021 down on his calendar. George Canyon even offered to speak with Dawydiuk over video call to share his thoughts on the matter.

Other local events, including the Kleefeld Honey Festival and the St. Pierre Frog Follies, have also announced they will be shifting this year’s plans to the summer of 2021.

Meanwhile, in Ste. Anne, the organizers of Dawson Trail Days are holding onto hope that their Labour Day weekend event will still be possible.

“We’re thinking in the next month we’ll know more,” offers Recreation Services Manager Sarah Normandeau who says Ste. Anne Council will make their official decision on the matter once the longterm provincial restrictions become more clear. "Right now we’re just waiting.”
