The Rural Municipality of Hanover will be spending money to ensure that a silica sand mine in Springfield does not have a negative impact in Hanover.

CanWhite Sands Corp. is proposing to extract silica sand from the Carman Sand member within the Winnipeg Sandstone geological formation beneath the RM of Springfield and process it at a new facility CanWhite is proposing to build outside of Vivian, Manitoba.

Earlier this year it was announced by Tache Council, that it had authorized the engagement of DD West LLP and McNeil Consulting Incorporated to conduct an investigation of the extraction project. Initial estimates suggested the research would cost approximately $60,000. Tache Council had asked their neighbouring municipalities to help foot the bill.

At its last Council meeting, Hanover passed a motion that it would pay up to $10,000 for its portion towards this third party study.
