Manitoba Parks is offering free guided night hikes on Falcon Creek Trail led by Park Interpreter Adam Collicutt, as he tells the story of the UFO Incident at Falcon Lake. The hikes will take place on Saturday, October 22 and 29.

“For first-time hikers, it's only 2.2 kilometres. There are a little bit of ups and downs on the granite. So, a little bit of a challenge, but it's nothing like the Mantario or Hunt Lake Trail by any means,” said Collicutt.

The story starts on a May long weekend in 1967 when amateur prospector Stephen Michalak was looking for quartz and silver at Falcon Lake. Then, he allegedly saw two-cigar shaped objects in the sky and went up to inspect them. He was then blasted by hot exhaust from what he says was one of the ships, which left a burn on his chest.

It was investigated by the RCMP and Royal Canadian Air Force but remains unsolved.

“This is definitely the most famous case, not just for Falcon Lake, but it's widely regarded as one of the most famous UFO encounters in Canada by a lot of people that research this topic.”

With three stops on the trail, Collicutt will go into more detail about the unsolved mystery and their findings.

To prepare, Collicutt encourages hikers to wear hiking shoes or boots and a warm jacket and bring water and a flashlight.
