Rob Warkentin and Kim Reimer sort donations with Hank Klassen

A food bank is being set up in Grunthal.

Pastor Jarrod Chamberlin of Elim Mennonite Church says they see a need in the community. A local committee is now working with Hank Klassen at Southeast Helping Hands to get established in Grunthal. Chamberlin says, "Why try to re-invent the wheel. We just came to a Hank and asked whether or not there was a way that we could walk alongside them and they were more than willing to mentor us. There is a need for families in the community and a lot of families can't get out to Steinbach because they don't have vehicles."

Chamberlin adds they are still working on finding a facility to work out of. A meeting will take place in Grunthal on Sunday to talk about that. He notes, "We are very green at this and so we are thankful to Helping Hands in Steinbach walking alongside us and encouraging us to get involved right away. Sometimes we want to know all the answers before we get going and Hank and the Helping Hands crew said 'Why don't you just start and those details will sort themselves out' so we'll anticipate the details will be coming out in the near future on how and where."

Hank Klassen of Southeast Helping Hands says, once Grunthal has its food bank set up, it will take over the southern area currently served by Helping Hands. He adds, "It'll take quite a load off our minds."
