A gas line was ruptured Monday night in the RM of La Broquerie. Fire Chief Al Nadeau says they got the call at 9:18 p.m. for a residence along Idawood Lane, which runs off of Loewen Boulevard two miles west of La Broquerie.

"A guy was digging a spot for a garden and he hit a secondary gas line that runs from the house to the shop. I'm not sure how come it wasn't deeper than that, but he ripped it open. He then consulted Centra Gas and they advised him that he had a secondary shut-off so he did that fairly quickly."

Nadeau reminds people to call utility companies before they do any excavating to avoid such incidents.

"Call before you dig. It's a better idea than hitting a gas line like that. It could have been dangerous if he couldn't have shut it off. If you get a gas build-up in the yard, it's very dangerous."
