The Bylaw Enforcement Officer for the Rural Municipality of Hanover says a lot of garbage totes in the community of Mitchell are being used improperly.

Mitchell residents began using the new system of totes in December. Brian Brunelle says there is still some educating to be done. Brunelle asks that totes be outside by 7am on garbage days. The totes are to be placed at the end of the driveway and not on the street. He asks for totes and recycle bins to sit at least three feet apart in order to allow sufficient space for the mechanical arms to do their pick ups.

Meanwhile, Brunelle has a few other reminders for all residents throughout the municipality. Brunelle says it is illegal to park unregistered or uninsured vehicles on roadways as this is not in compliance with the Highway Traffic Act or municipal bylaws. Owners of these vehicles are subject to fines as well as the costs for towing and storage. Furthermore, utility trailers are prohibited from being stored on roads if they are not plated or insured and if they are not attached to a motor vehicle.

And finally, Brunelle asks residents to move their parked vehicles off streets on a regular basis to allow for snow clearing crews to do their job. As well he says the end of driveways should be kept clear of obstacles that could hinder snow clearing efforts. And, snow should not be pushed off a driveway and onto roadways.
