Mayor Chris GoertzenThe Mayor of Steinbach says city council has set a number of goals for 2016. Chris Goertzen says those include more infrastructure upgrades and continued planning for new recreation and cultural facilities. He adds there is another major priority.

"We want to see more senior's housing built in our city. Personal Care Home beds are in high demand. We've known this for many years. We've put a lot of energy into advocating for this with the provincial government. We're going to step that up this year and we really want to see a Personal Care Home announced in our city in 2016. We really are going to be putting a lot of pressure on the provincial government to move forward with that. We are also going to step up ourselves as a city."

Goertzen says so many people have made Steinbach their home and built the city to what it is today and it's important to respect them by enabling those who need it to get personal care close to their family and friends.

Meanwhile, the Mayor says Steinbach is poised to do very well economically in the coming year.

"We see the dollar lower which allows us to sell more products and export more products. We see continued growth in immigration for the Province of Manitoba and Steinbach is a key destination for many of those people. So we're going to continue to see growth, we're going to see businesses move here and we're going to continue to see a lot of new housing built. So, as the city grows, we're going to hopefully have many businesses that are able to take advantage of that and we get more amenities for the people who presently live here."
