The La Broquerie Farmers’ Market held its first event this season at their regular location in the hotel parking lot after a successful kick-off at the Hylife Centre.

Organizer Sarah Wieler says that even though the rainy weather has slowed the start for produce vendors, the market has a good variety of other food items and locally crafted goods.

Lynne Robson from Country Chameleon has a variety of jams, jellies and syrups.

“I’ve got pretty much anything you can think of, as far as sweets and savouries. I’ve got some cool syrups. One of my new ones is called Go Expresso Yourself. It's a syrup, fabulous on ice cream or on pancakes. It’s got more caffeine than a cup of coffee, so it'll get you started good.”

Robson says she spends all her time in the kitchen and at markets, adding she’ll take it easy during the colder months.

Andree Desorcy is creative with sublimated water tumblers, and she makes a variety of wind spinners, also known as whirly birds.

“I attach all these different charms so they're good for both inside and outside.”

She suggests hanging a flat wind spinner in windows that cause problems for birds, or hanging them on your deck or in a tree to add some beauty to your yard.

Desorcy says people have often commented on the rarity of seeing whirly birds available in Canada as they’re more easily found in the United States.

With added market dates this year, Wieler says they are also planning a few special market days.

“We have got a fantastic lineup this summer. In August, we're planning a kids’ weekend. We're going to be announcing about having some youth entrepreneurs, getting the kids in our community involved. We're going to have a bouncy castle, face painting. Later on, at the end of the season, we're looking at having a Metis Day. So, we're going to really try and encourage our local Metis makers, bakers, crafters and entertainers (to come out).”

The La Broquerie Farmers’ Market happens every Saturday 9-1.
