With a warmer-than-normal summer expected for southern Manitoba, we took to the streets to learn about the best ice cream flavours.

Adam has a very tasty ice cream treat and is kind enough to share the details.

“I like the basic vanilla. But to spice it up, you top it with homemade hardening chocolate. You just take a tiny bit of chocolate chips, whatever kind you like, a bit of smooth peanut butter, melt it just for tiny bit of time until it's melted, mix it up, pour it over and it hardens. And it's like a Reese's cup. It's so good.”

Hannah is having a hard time tracking down her favourite ice cream, it seems like it's not available anywhere nearby.

“Boysenberry is one of my favourite ice cream flavors. You can only get it in New Zealand though, and it's just this gorgeous fuchsia color. There was this favorite place my friends and I would go to on the beach, this little silver van called the Big Wave, just a little ice cream trailer, and it was just phenomenal. The ice cream is so good, and Canada and North America just doesn't do it. I've looked online. Not worth it to order ice cream, you know, it doesn't quite make sense, just can't get it, but it's just a gorgeous color, delicious flavor and I just wish we had it here.”

Nathan agrees that a long trip overseas is needed in order to find the best ice cream.

“My favourite ice cream is called Hokey Pokey. I used to live in New Zealand and it's the favourite flavour of New Zealand. It's like a vanilla with these caramel bubbles in it.”

Karen will probably have an easier time finding her favourite ice cream this summer.

“I love salted caramel, the best,” she says. “I’ve always loved it. And if there are some nuts in there, that’s great too. A little extra treat.”

Laurie says she’s given a hard time when people find out about her ice cream favourites.

“I’ve been told that I like ice cream that ‘old people’ like. I don’t feel like I’m all that old, but my favourite ice cream is Tiger Tiger, Black Cherry, or Maple Walnut.”

Tina says strawberry chocolate was her favourite ice cream flavour as a child, but her taste has changed over the years.

“Now, it’s probably Rum Raisin.”

She says the raisins and a little bit of spice make for the perfect combination.

When we asked a group of kids about their favourite ice cream, each one gave quick responses. There was no question what they liked.

Azrielle, Ariah, Madyson, and Tiara shouted responses of ‘chocolate with vanilla!’ ‘Orange ice cream!’ ‘Chocolate!’ And ‘vanilla!’

Whatever your favourite ice cream treats are this summer, make sure you enjoy the sweet flavours with a friend.
