Hanover Fire and Rescue spent 10 hours at the Bothwell Cheese production plant on Saturday battling a fire.

Chief Paul Wiebe says they were dispatched at 9:30am Saturday morning to the plant in New Bothwell.

Although the fire was brought under control in just under two hours, there was a lot of work ahead for fire fighters to extinguish it.

“We had some fire extension in the roof area that was extremely difficult to access,” Wiebe says.

The last members of his crew cleared the scene just after 7:30pm Saturday evening. He reports there were no injuries.

As for the cause of the fire, Wiebe says it is being investigated by the Office of the Fire Commissioner.

“Damage estimates are not available at this time but will be significant,” Wiebe adds.
