The country's farm animal council's are joining forces to get animal welfare on the agenda.  Shanyn Silinski is the executive director of the Manitoba Farm Animal Council.  She says, unfortunately, animal welfare seems to come up in agriculture only after a problem has been discovered.  The 3 year, $700,000.00 project aims to take a proactive approach to the issue.
It features 3 major components; the development of a workshop and speakers bureau, enhancing communications to farmers and vets, and farm animal handling training opportunities.  Funding is being provided in part by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada as well as organization's like the Manitoba Rural Adaptation Council.
