Residents and commuters living near Niverville would have seen dark smoke and flames rising from an old barn around 4:00pm Monday afternoon.

Niverville Fire Chief Keith Bueckert says it was an old barn that the farm wanted burned down.

Niverville Fire and EMS had been informed of the request from the farmer and had inspected the property prior to the fire. Bueckert says everything was safe and gave the farmer full control of setting the fire and monitor it.

Bueckert also notes that 911 had this information and at any time, if Niverville Fire and EMS had been needed to assist with the burn, they would have been notified.

Bueckert notes that, as of 5:08pm, the fire was nearly out.

The barn was located northwest of Niverville near the intersection of Hwy 311 and Krahn Road.
