South Hampton Entrance in Niverville

Niverville will be getting a new crosswalk for improved pedestrian safety at the Hespler Park entrance and school bus stop.

Counsellor Kevin Stott says they will construct an elevated crosswalk about 200 feet East of Fifth Avenue, know as South Hampton entrance, for improved safety. ”Many parents drive their kids to the bus stop and park within the vicinity, which makes it very hard for the kids to see the cars as well difficult for the motorists to see the kids. So we want to create a safer environment for everybody so nothing happens.”

Stott adds an elevated crosswalk is a system that has been tried in other places, so counsil has decided to copy. “It would look like a glorified speed bump and it not only raises (up) the kids a little bit so they're easier to see, but it also slows down the cars.”
