The St. Malo Fire Department was called off as mutual aid when the rain began last night.

Dominion City Fire Chief Barry Gushuliak says they were concerned about the fire spreading onto municipal land, as well, a resident who borders the reserve was concerned about his property going up in flames.

Gushuliak says there was no damage to any of the houses on the reserve and the rain was able to put out the grass on fire. He notes the trees are still hot and a spark could reignite the grass.

They're hoping for more rain today to help abate further fires.
