It was an expensive trip for an American couple from South Carolina planning to vacation in Manitoba.

Customs officers at Emerson found 3 loaded handguns in the motor home they were travelling in as they were attempting to enter the province.  Spokesperson Loretta Nyhus says there's no indication the couple had any intention of selling the guns in Canada.  The couple was fined a total of $6,500.00 for not declaring the weapons.  She says by not being truthful the incident brought the couple's vacation plans to an abrupt end.  So far this year, Canada Border Services has made 15 gun seizures in Manitoba, confiscating a total of 18 firearms.
