Steinbach city council will take another look at building a sidewalk to connect Clearspring Greens with the rest of the city. The neighbourhood is located just east of the golf course. Council this week received a letter from a resident saying people need a safe route for walking and cycling, a request that has been put forward several times in recent years.

City councillor Jac Siemens moved that council discuss the request at its summer study session in July.

"It's always important to connect the various areas in Steinbach and Clearspring Greens is no exception. Right now, they've got narrow paved roads so biking and walking on those roads is a hazard. So, how do we get people to be more pedestrian through walking or biking? We don't know what that will look like, whether it means going across the golf course, whether it means adding width to the streets. It's expensive either way you look it. But this does continue to need to be on the city's agenda."

Council was unanimous in agreeing to that discussion.

Mayor Chris Goertzen notes previous cost estimates prepared for council on this matter have been quite expensive.

"We did see a fairly hefty price tag at one point of a few options. So we'll see where we end up with further discussions on this."
