Proposed changes to provincial electoral boundaries could result in quite a change for the Rural Municipality of Ritchot.

(The proposed Carillon riding would include communities such as Lorette and St. Malo.)If approved, Ritchot would become part of a new riding called, Carillon. It would stretch from Grande Pointe, down to south of St. Malo. The northern portion would also span east of Ross.

Ritchot Mayor Chris Ewen says the changes would be a great opportunity for his municipality. Ewen notes Ritchot is currently part of two ridings and served by two Members of the Legislative Assembly. Ritchot is part of Dawson Trail, served by Bob Lagasse and the Morris riding, served by Shannon Martin.

"We've always had great MLAs in the area," notes Ewen. "It would just be nice to have just that one contact, instead of separating our time to two."

The current population of the new Carillon riding would be about 22,900 compared to the current population of Dawson Trail at about 24,275 and Morris at 26,365.

Public hearings are scheduled for September to get feedback from the public on these proposed changes.
