The second Taste of Summer Charity Barbecue took place this Wednesday at SCU on the corner of Main and Lumber.
Last week was the highest amount ever raised at the Taste of Summer Charity Barbecue at $8201 for Soup’s On, but this week the record was broken once again at $8734.65
Reuben Singh of Steinbach YFC explains $2700 of it was raised from the hot dog sales, and the leftover $6000 was from three sponsors who each donated $2000.
“We had three matching sponsors Rogers here in Steinbach, Loewen Auto Body, and an anonymous for each $2000 and so that puts up to just over $8700.”
Singh says this money is going to make a big difference as it will allow for youth to have more recreational opportunities.
“Getting youth out camping, day trips, so they don't have to spend a lot of money themselves or no money themselves on these types of events, laser tag, things like that.”
He says it’s amazing to have the community come out to support them, and to know the impact they’re making is being recognized.
“Even just some of the people that came and gave came and shook my hand and said thanks, we believe in what you're doing now more than ever, and that's just really encouraging and I've done this for almost 20 years now and it just continues to blow my mind how generous and behind us this community is.”
Singh is extremely grateful to the local sponsors that came down and helped set up, cooked hot dogs, and made this all possible.
“Our business community is amazing. They continue to take care of us every year through events like this you know SCU letting us have the space and the different sponsors that put the meal together, that's huge,” he says. “But then having them throughout the year, partnering in different ways as well, that’s just that's how we survive as an organization and as a community.”
YFC is really excited to be expanding in Blumenort.
“We're looking to do a walk through on the construction by early next month, and hopefully September the doors are open there.”
The Taste of Summer Charity Barbecue continues next week, Wednesday, July 19, from 11 AM to 1 PM or until supplies last. Proceeds will be donated to Safe Families.
