It wasn't the prettiest of games but at the end of it, the Steinbach Pistons came away with a critical 5-2 win over the Kam River Fighting Walleye to keep the hopes of a quarter-finals berth alive.

For the first time in the tournament the Pistons opened the scoring when Nick Mikan buried on a rebound to put the Pistons up 1-0.

The SIJHL Champions quickly answered as a defender jumped up in the the rush, took a pass and scored to tie things up 1-1.

Right after the goal, Brett Kaiser responded as the rookie went to the front of the net and buried. Hunter Degelman took the original shot after Davin Griffin fired over a pass after forcing the turnover.

Dominik Wasik wasn't overly tested in the frame but he made his best save off a shorthanded breakaway attempt, keeping his team up by a goal.

Steinbach managed to take a 2-1 lead into the second period.

In the second, the Pistons let Kam River hang around but never really let them threaten outside of a few flash chances.

As time ticked down in the period, the Pistons earned a 4:00 power play and they took full advantage.

With under a minute to go in the second, Landon Roberts tipped home a Travis Hensrud shot from the half wall and in to put the Pistons up 3-1. Parker Jasper added the secondary assist.

Early in the third and while still on the double minor power play, a point shot from Jasper knocked off a couple skates, eventually finding the waiting blade of Ty Paisley who tucked home his second of the tournament, making it a 4-1 hockey game.

Ian Amsbaugh capped off the offensive night for the Pistons as his shot deflected off a Kam River defender and in for his second of the event.

The Fighting Walleye cut into the lead late but Steinbach held on to win 5-2.

Steinbach's first ever win on the National Stage improved their Centennial Cup record to 1-1-1, good for 4 points and right in the hunt for a spot in the semi-finals.

Battlefords North Stars play the Portage Terriers on Monday night. Regardless of that score, the Pistons need to beat Battlefords on Tuesday if they want to make it to the playoffs.
