The Ecole St. Joachim Braves will represent Zone 13 at the Provincial High School Fastpitch Championship this weekend in Brandon.

Pascale Kihn drilled a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning and Ava Boily added a bases clearing triple in the third as the Braves defeated the Landmark 96’ers 12-10 in the championship game at A.D. Penner Park in Steinbach.

The 96’ers plated six runs in the top of the third and grabbed a 7-2 lead but the Braves answered with six runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.

St. Joachim reeled off four straight wins in capturing their first Zone 13 Fastpitch Championship banner.

The Braves defeated the Lorette Scorpions 12-1 and the Edward Schreyer Barons of Beausejour 12-0 in pool play.

St. Joachim then shutout Gabrielle Roy 11-0 in the semifinals and beat Landmark in the championship game. The 96’ers downed Steinbach Regional 10-3 in the other semifinal.

The Zone 13 champions will face Stonewall in one of two round robin games Friday at the Provincials.

The other spot will be up for grabs Wednesday in Glenboro.

Landmark will face Virden and Pilot Mound will take on Hamiota.

The winners will meet to determine who gets the wildcard spot into the provincials and join the Braves and Rams in Pool Two.
