The Office of the Fire Commissioner has provided a damage estimate for Sunday's barn fire southwest of Blumenort.

The New Bothwell Fire Department got the call at 3:40 am, for a barn fire along Road 31E.

The Office of the Fire Commissioner says due to extensive damage and the heat of the fire, the investigator was not able to determine the cause of the fire. However, it is not considered suspicious.

Damage is estimated at $2.5 million. About 28,000 hens were lost in the blaze.

The barn contained approximately 50,000 layers and pullets and firefighters were able to save half the barn thanks to a fire wall.

There were no injuries.
