The University of Manitoba has released findings from a workplace study which found abusive leadership styles may cause a possible backlash.
It looked at employers on reality TV shows such as 'The Apprentice' and 'The Office' which tend to mistreat and undermine employees.  Dr. Sandy Hershcovis says even the most subtle mistreatment of employees may cause an employee retaliation.  It isn't so much unfair decisions that will upset employees, but the manner in which those decisions are communicated.  Employees will usually retaliate in either a direct form such as yelling or in an indirect form like taking longer breaks.  Hershcovis adds the findings  mean significant changes in management training.  Employers and supervisors need to be aware of the adverse effects of mistreating employees.
