Agape House in Steinbach held its 5th annual Teddy Bear Fun Day Saturday.

It was an opportunity for children to bring their stuffed animals, have them looked over by nurses and stitched up by surgeons. There was also an adoption clinic for anyone wanting to adopt a teddy bear.

Donna from Agape House says one of the best supports for women and children leaving domestic abuse is to have a strong community.

"Strong community gets stronger when you have a lot of fun, you have an opportunity to get out and meet new people and do cool things," she says, explaining why they hold this event each year.

Tracy from Agape House says they are probably best known for their emergency shelter offered to women and children leaving abuse and violence. But they also operate a 24-hour crisis line. She adds they do non-residential counselling for women and children and have two interim housing units set up for women to transition from the shelter to their own home.
