RCMP made arrests in Steinbach last Wednesday in two separate incidents of theft that occurred within an hour of each other.

The first incident happened shortly before 7:00 p.m. at Superstore. RCMP were notified of a theft and were on the scene within minutes. They arrested a male suspect and found him in possession of various items along with break-in instruments and a weapon. Investigators determined he had also stolen liquor from the Liquor Mart. A 31-year-old male from Steinbach is facing a number of charges including theft, possession of break-in instruments, possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose and fail to comply with conditions of recognizance. He has been remanded into custody in Winnipeg.

The second incident happened just before 8:00 p.m. last Wednesday at Walmart where a theft had been reported. Officers rushed to the scene, chased and then caught the suspect. The male had several stolen items in his possession plus a weapon. A 34-year-old male from Steinbach has been remanded in custody on charges that include theft, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of weapon for a dangerous reason. He is also under investigation for some other thefts. Police believe they prevented a more serious crime from happening by arresting this person.
