The Chief Administrative Officer for the Rural Municipality of Ritchot says it is looking favourable to move to the design stage for construction of a fire hall in Ste. Agathe.

Mitch Duval notes they are considering construction of a third hall for the municipality and Thursday night they held a firefighter recruitment information session in Ste. Agathe. According to Duval, about thirty people attended. He says most of them were of the younger generation with an interest in being a firefighter.

Duval notes the meeting provided information on what a firefighter does and what the requirements would be of a volunteer member.

According to Duval, one of the concerns is that Ste. Agathe is a bedroom community. He notes ideally, firefighters would both live and work in that community. He says the Fire Chief and Deputy Chief would need to do their management accordingly.

Meanwhile, a similar meeting is being planned at Ste. Agathe Community Hall for February 25 beginning at 7pm. Anyone wanting an application should contact Fire Chief Scott Weir at sweir@mts.net or swing by the municipal office in St. Adolphe to pick one up.

According to Duval, if a hall is built in Ste. Agathe, it will likely go up at the west entrance of the community, off Provincial Road 305. Depending on final drawings, Duval says it could cost between $600,000 and $750,000.
