Four people were injured in a high-speed collision that took place near St. Malo this morning.

A spokesperson for the St. Pierre RCMP says members were dispatched to the intersection of Highway 59 and Benoit Avenue at around 9:30 AM. STARS air ambulance crews were also called to the scene.

After their initial investigation, police believe that an 18-year-old male driver with a 17-year-old male passenger was headed eastbound on Benoit and entered the intersection when it was unsafe to do so. As a result, the car collided with another vehicle that was proceeding north down the highway. This second vehicle contained a 69-year-old male driver and a 70-year-old female passenger.

RCMP note all occupants of both vehicles were taken to hospital, one of whom was airlifted from the scene by STARS to the Health Sciences Centre. Members add the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
