The Mayor for Ritchot says he expects construction on the new daycare in St. Adolphe will begin in two to four weeks.

The project will see the former RV rental centre at 372 Main Street turned into a daycare facility.

Chris Ewen explains the St. Adolphe daycare had 23 spots inside the school. The new facility will have an extra 90 spots, bringing the total to 113.

The project is expected to cost about $1.7 million. In March, Ritchot council voted in favour of a borrowing bylaw that will see the municipality borrow $1 million to be paid back over 20 years. An additional $560,000 will come from the province and $140,000 from Manitoba Hydro CDI funding.

Ewen notes the goal had been to have the work completed for the start of school in September. However, he notes it has taken a little longer than expected to get the project started and says it will now likely be January before the work is complete.

Meanwhile, Ritchot council voted in favour of awarding the construction contract and partnership agreement to Wins Bridgman Collaborative of Winnipeg.
