A Colorado Low is on target to hit the southeast corner of our province.

Terri Lang with Environment Canada says a snowfall warning has been issued in advance of what is expected to be a snowy day on Saturday.

Lang says it is not easy to forecast a Colorado Low, but now that it has hit their radar, they can say the snow is expected to begin Saturday morning. Between 10 and 15 centimetres of snow is anticipated to fall throughout the day, with up to 20 centimetres in the extreme southeast. The snow should end Saturday evening.

Winds are expected to gust to 20 to 40 kilometres per hour Saturday afternoon.

"We're looking for a lot of blowing and drifting snow, looks like the strongest winds will probably develop in the afternoon," says Lang. "So kind of a messy driving day for (Saturday)."

Lang says the bulk of this system will actually stay to the south and east. She notes northwestern Ontario, North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota are expected to be the hardest hit with this system.

Meanwhile, Lang says they are keeping an eye on another storm expected to hit late Tuesday and into Wednesday.

"That one looks more like a direct hit for most of southern Manitoba," says Lang.

She notes we got rid of the polar vortex and now we are into the snow storm season.
