A small hobby barn caught fire about one mile south of La Broquerie shortly before 6 Thursday morning.

La Broquerie Fire Chief Alain Nadeau says the last time there were animals in the small barn was three years ago. He notes they were able to save about half of the barn and keep the fire from spreading to outbuildings.

"We basically walked around and made sure there was nothing dangerous inside or on the outside. I talked to the owner, he was burning grass around it last night and I think it subsequently hit a beam on the lower end and caught it overnight."

Nadeau says the small barn wasn’t being used to store anything valuable and was not insured so it was not a very large loss.
