Serving Seniors Incorporated Meals on Wheels was the focus of Wednesday’s Taste of Summer Charity Barbecue.

We were able to raise $1,431 for Serving Seniors Incorporated Meals on Wheel which provides daily three-course meals to seniors and those at risk of isolation. Community Resource Coordinator Carrie Bilawchuk notes they charge each client $6 per meal to cover their costs and the money the received from the barbecue will help keep those costs low.

Carrie Bilawchuk receiving the donation"We just received a repair quote for our dryer for almost $200 so part of it can be used for that and then the rest goes into a general reserve fund that we can draw from if something of ours breaks; if we have to replace equipment and to offset some of the pricing we have. If the price of meat goes up and it is going to cost us a bit more, we can use that money to offset it."

Bilawchuk says the Taste of Summer Charity Barbecue was very uplifting.

"It was fantastic seeing all of the support and seeing all of the businesses coming together to help promote our program that we are just a little set off at the 55 plus and we do our thing and it is nice to know that other people know about us and others want to know about us"

Bilawchuk thanks everyone who came out to support them at the Taste of Summer Charity Barbecue.
