Steinbach RCMP are asking local residents to contact them if they feel their pets are being intentionally poisoned.

On Thursday, April 11, Police received a report of suspected animal cruelty in the village of Marchand.

RCMP were informed that a 40-year-old dog owner from Marchand was forced to put down her dog due to an illness. The owner believed her dog had been poisoned by a piece of meat deliberately left on her property.

The dog owner shared her concerns over social media and found there were others in the area who claimed they had similar experiences.

RCMP along with Animal Welfare, which falls under the Chief Veterinary Office, are conducting a joint investigation into the matter.

Anyone with any additional information is asked to contact Steinbach RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
