Niverville's David Richert is excited to announce he will be racing Formula 3 cars in Europe this year.

Over the last few seasons, Richert has driven in a variety of racing series including LMP3, Formula 3, and Formula Renault 2.0.

This year, Richert says he’s driving a Volkswagen-powered Formula 3 car for the Austrian-based Franz Wöss Racing Team in the Drexler-Automotive Formel Cup.

"It has got about eight different race events speckled throughout Europe, six different countries, and the most enjoyable part to me is that a lot of those race tracks are on Formula 1 Grand Prix circuits so being able to watch Formula 1 on television, seeing those same circuits and then being able to go participate on those tracks, I am really looking forward to that opportunity."

Richert says there will be a wide variety of drivers in this series so he is expecting to be quite competitive.

In many ways, Formula 3 cars are similar to the Formula Renault 2.0 cars Richert was racing in 2020."In the past, I have driven against guys who are in Formula 1 today from Lando Norris to Alex Albon, Max Verstappen. Those guys are bringing $2M-plus budgets to the racing championships, something I have always struggled to put together so this year is going to give me a chance to drive the exact same cars and even a car that is faster than I have driven in the past but maybe a slight step back on the budget that the competitors are bringing so it is going to give me a chance to maybe be a bit more competitive."

Richert notes this is an amazing opportunity as he continues to work toward racing at the highest level in IndyCar or at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Over the last few months, Richert says he has been training and working hard to get back into shape. He notes he couldn’t be more excited.

"I am looking forward to getting back into a car and driving as fast as I possibly can go. With the last couple of years and not being able to dive into it as much as I have wanted to, with the challenges of COVID, I am really looking forward to getting back up to speed, getting comfortable again in a racing vehicle and challenging myself."
