More streets in Ile des Chenes are about to be paved.

Ritchot Mayor Chris Ewen says crews have begun the task of paving Meadowlark Boulevard. Along Meadowlark, there is a strip mall, new Co-op, townhouses and condos and Ewen says today that is a gravel road. He says it defeats the purpose to have a car wash along this road.

"With the paving happening in the next couple of weeks, I think it's going to be a great opportunity for businesses to get more attention," explains Ewen. "As well as just a cleaner area when you drive into Ile des Chenes, it beautifies it automatically."

Crews are not only paving Meadowlark but moving over the access road as well as adding a bike path and walkway.

"We feel Ile des Chenes has lacked and suffered a lot for their walking paths, there's not a lot there," says Ewen. "So slowly but surely we're going to be adding those walking paths and sidewalks throughout Ile des Chenes and this is kind of the start of everything."

The work is being done by Maple Leaf Construction at a cost of nearly $185,000. This cost will be split 50/50 between the developer and municipality.

Ewen says they went one step further and will also be paving Quest Boulevard along the commercial side. He notes there are a lot of big trucks using that road, and this should make everything that much cleaner.

The entire project is expected to cost about $250,000.

Ewen says if the weather allows, they will hopefully complete all the paving this fall yet.
