In addition to being a busy flight school, Harv's Air has also hosted film crews a few times since August.

Motorists driving up and down McKenzie Avenue late last week may have noticed film trailers and equipment on the west side of the Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church parking lot. That equipment was actually being stored there while crews were working at Harv’s.

Adam Penner is the Operations Manager for Harv's Air. He says crews have been filming a new show called Skymed at their location just south of Steinbach, noting "it is about air ambulance or Medivac flying."

Photos of the film crews working at Harv's are still under wrapsPenner says this production is actually kind of unique in that it is partially set in Manitoba rather than somewhere in the U.S. He adds the film crews have been great to work with.

"It is kind of like the circus comes to town. It is 110-120 people and they are all very busy with lighting, sound, actors, and directors and it is very interesting to watch. It gives you a much better idea of what it takes to make TV shows and movies and I respect it a lot more now. We are continuing to operate as normal. They wanted airplanes in the background and life and so we are giving them that."

Adam’s son Dylan Penner says he has been working as a liaison between Harv’s and the production team.

"I am working with different vehicles here, making sure that everyone is safe basically. They are using our back lot, roaming around on the apron here and I kind of moderate that. They are willing to adapt to a lot of things and they are very understanding if I say no. It has been very fun!"

Dylan says he and a few of the other Harv’s Air staff members have also had the chance to be extras in a few scenes.

Adam Penner says crews are shooting a total of 10 production days at Harv's this year. He notes the first few stints were at the end of August and in September and they plan to be back two more times before Christmas.

Penner note he is happy to show off Harv's airport at Steinbach South.

"They are pretty amazed, to see such an active airport with such little planes is quite unique and they are very excited by it. We've worked with other productions at our St. Andrews base and they like our flexibility and the enthusiasm for it. I like it too because it brings new money into Manitoba, from a business perspective it is very good."
