STARS responded to a motorcycle accident at 1:35 AM Sunday morning.

The initial investigation by Steinbach RCMP has determined that the driver suffered serious but non-threatening injuries after he locked the brakes and lay the motorcycle down on its side while driving. They believe a deer may have been crossing the road at the time. The motorcycle driver was airlifted to a Winnipeg hospital and has since been reported in stable condition.

According to RCMP, the 48-year old male driver was from Winnipeg. Police note they found him conscious and breathing beside his wife in the ditch along Road 40E in the RM of Ste. Anne. His wife indicates she had been following her husband in the family vehicle but had not witnessed the accident.

Alcohol is believed to have been a factor, and police say the man was not wearing a helmet. Steinbach RCMP informs that the investigation will continue.
