The Mayor of Steinbach would like to remind homeowners that it is their responsibility to keep their yards tidy. Chris Goertzen made this comment following Friday's Open Door session.

Earlier this week, the Canadian Beverage Container Recycling Association named Steinbach the cleanest city in North America. Goertzen says that may be the case but he still reminds residents to take care of their yards and not to have rubbish lying around.

Goertzen notes if residents spot yards that are in constant non-compliance, they should contact Steinbach's Community Services Officer. He says the goal is always that residents will do the tidying themselves. If there is an infraction, a reminder will be issued and if the problem is not dealt with there will be further action taken.

Also Friday morning, the Mayor had a resident speak to him about street speeding.

"There are areas of concern where people see people speeding at a fairly constant rate," notes Goertzen.

On Friday he was reminded of the speeding issues along Reimer Avenue east but says speeding in school zones is also a real problem.

If anyone would like to report some of the street speeding hotspots they are encouraged to contact City Hall. Those concerns will then be forwarded to RCMP.
