Firefighters in La Broquerie were kept busy Friday night as the heavy snow fell in the southeast.

Fire Chief Al Nadeau explains they had a total of eight calls and it all started with someone pulling a fire alarm at Arborgate School around 4:30pm and the person actually ended up breaking it. Nadeau says from there on they had seven calls all over the municipality for power lines touching branches and sparking. He notes when that happens, you don't necessarily have to call the fire department but it's completely dependent on the situation.

"If there's nobody playing outside under the hydro lines and you're in the house and it's not over buildings or anything when it's snowing like that, you can be pretty well assured that the fire is not going to run away on you. Sometimes just let them burn out," says Nadeau.

"Call hydro to come and clean it up after if there are branches that remain to make sure it doesn't happen again," notes Nadeau who says if you still are not quite sure of the situation, it is best to call the fire department.

Nadeau notes their crews were out well past 1am Saturday going from call to call.
