There is another delay in the construction project scheduled this summer on the Trans-Canada Highway between Ste. Anne and Dufresne. The work was originally scheduled to start this spring but was then pushed back to early August. Mark Allard of Manitoba Infrastructure says the main work now won't begin until the end of August or early September.

"The contractor has come in and is doing just a little bit of work to kind of get things prepared for him. Then, he's going to move on to another project for a little bit and return later this summer to do the majority of the work."

He notes there are several parts to the project along that eight kilometre stretch of road. The Highway #12 overpass will get new pavement and the roadway beneath it will be lowered to improve clearance for large trucks. The rough roadway over a 2.5 kilometre stretch immediately west of the overpass will be fixed and topped with new pavement and the intersection at Dufresne is being upgraded to improve safety.

When the project gets going, Highway #1 will be down to one lane each way between Ste. Anne and Dufresne.

Again, Allard says the work won't start for about another month.

"Late August, maybe into early September, but certainly in and around Labour Day weekend we expect to see them there."
