Hockey is being used to fight cancer on Saturday as two AAA Female Midget hockey teams will go head-to-head in a battle for the most funds alongside their battle for the puck.

Eastman Selects Coach Curt Enns says his girls will be playing against the Central Plains Capitals at 6:30 PM in Ste. Anne. He notes some of the parents are even getting in on the friendly competition, hoping not only to beat the other teams but raise the most money as well.

Though she admits winning would be great, Selects Goaltender Raygan Kirk remarks: “It’s more than just a game today. Hopefully we can raise the most money, but obviously, any money is important to the cause.”

Defense Player Camille Enns agrees with Kirk. She suggests that these kinds of games make the atmosphere in the arena feel different, adding that the league even gave them special jerseys to wear for these kinds of events.

The event itself will have a silent auction, a cupcake sale, a 50/50 draw and gate fees with all proceeds donated to Cancer Care at the end of the night.

Coach Enns encourages anyone who has time, to come on down, support a good cause, and watch some good quality hockey.
