The Steinbach Fire Department was able to assist a farmer in extinguishing a forage harvester just over a mile west of Blumenort.

Assistant Fire Chief Russ Reimer says the forage harvester was in the field chopping corn when it caught fire.

"The guys working the machinery managed to use all of their extinguishers and pump cans on it and so they had the majority of the fire knocked down. When we got out here we used some foam and water on it to make sure it was totally out and now they have transported the vehicle back to their shop."

Reimer says when forage equipment catches fire it can be very difficult to extinguish so even though there is some damage on this machine, it was a good save.
