There was a bush fire Wednesday night shortly after 8 p.m. in a tree line bordering the soccer park behind the Birchwood Funeral Chapel.

Steinbach Fire assistant chief Russ Reimer says it's a unique situation to have a bushfire inside city limits.

"We don't have to drop water, we have ample water supply, we can add additional lines. So, something like this we should be able to get underhand pretty easily. Today's wind is a bit exceptional though and there are some big buildings around. So, thankfully, it wasn't anywhere near that at this point."

Reimer adds crews were able to get the fire under control and extinguished quickly before the strong winds caused it to become worse.

He notes the cause of the fire was probably unintentional.

The fire covered an area approximately 20 feet by 100 feet.
