A funding announcement made by the Federal and Provincial Governments Friday will allow a new water distribution system for Landmark.

Mayor of Tache Robert Rivard

Tache Mayor Robert Rivard says funding for the water treatment system was announced a year and a half ago, but it didn't include a distribution system. "So it's going to be another 7.6 million dollars with the federal government funding half, the provincial government funding 25%, and Landmark 25%."

He says as the infrastructure is being built, developers are getting ready at the same time to add houses as soon as the system is up and running, which will be about a year and a half from now.

"Leading up to that, we have to do the engineering study to see what's all involved, but we are ready to start on the treatment plant this summer. We are hoping to start the distribution system shortly thereafter."

Rivard notes the complete system will allow for larger pipes accommodating fire hydrants and a complete fire protection system, and will also allow the community to double in size.

"It's a very good thing for Landmark and the nearly 2000 residents. I would like to thank the Federal and Provincial Governments for coming up with this money because Landmark couldn't come up with it on its own."
