The SRSS theatre was packed on Thursday for the opening night of The Pirates of Penzance.

David Klassen says the opening night of the Steinbach Arts Council’s The Pirates of Penzance musical went off without a hitch. He notes now that rehearsals are over and the show run has begun, it is great to sit back and enjoy the show.

"I feel really proud. Instinctually I am a teacher, I like people to work on a project with me and walk away having learned something and I think everybody has to a certain degree in this cast. I am really pleased and proud of everybody at the product. Like I keep saying, it is polished and it is tight and the characters are super fun to watch."

says the rehearsal schedule has been tighter than in past productions like The Wizard of Oz or Anne of Green Gables.

"We have done it on a tighter timeline this time this time but everyone is very smart and talented. I wouldn’t say that it has been easy because when you have a time restraint you do have to work a little bit more under pressure but everybody has really done their homework and it is just a polished fantastic performance."

The Pirates of Penzance opened Thursday evening and runs until Sunday afternoon.
