Southern Manitoba is now firmly entrenched in the latest Alberta Clipper to hammer this part of the province.

The snow started early Thursday morning and the gusty winds are creating for some less than ideal driving conditions. In your Boyd Autobody and Glass Road Report, most highways in the region are listed as partly snow covered with blowing and drifting snow and poor visibility. According to Steinbach RCMP, they will be closing Highway 12 south of Steinbach.

The snow mixed with rain is expected to end in Steinbach late Thursday afternoon. Environment Canada is calling for five to 10 centimetres of snow to fall by the time the system passes through. Winds will be from the south at 30 km/h gusting to 50 km/h before turning light in the afternoon.

For Thursday evening there is only a 60 per cent chance of flurries late in the evening and overnight. Blowing snow will then pick up again overnight as the wind shifts to the northwest, gusting to 70 km/h. This will create a stark contrast in temperatures. After a forecast high of zero during the day, Thursday night's low is -21 degrees. Overnight temperatures are expected to be considerably lower this weekend.

The normal high for this time of year is -7 degrees. The normal low is -17 degrees.
