It will be a tale of two halves this Labour Day weekend in southern Manitoba.

Natalie Hasell with Environment Canada says we are currently in the wake of a low pressure system that rolled through the region earlier this week. As a result, we will see sunshine on Friday and then again Saturday morning. Friday's high is 21 degrees.

But, Hasell says clouds will roll in on Saturday as another low pressure system moves through. This will bring rain, with possible thunderstorms beginning late in the day on Saturday.

"If you are the type who likes rain and showers you will enjoy the rest of the weekend," says Hasell. "Although, I expect most people in Manitoba are going to think, oh another long weekend in southern Manitoba, oh look it's raining. It does seem to be a trend here."

As the low pressure system passes through, Hasell says we will experience a drop in temperature. After highs in the low 20's on Saturday and Sunday, the real change happens on Monday. The forecast for that day is calling for a good chance of rain and a high of only 12 degrees.

"Unfortunately, for those who do prefer nicer weather when they are out on the last long weekend, might be a bit of a disappointment," says Hasell.

Hasell says their models are not showing significant amounts of rain for southern Manitoba this weekend. However, with a threat of thunderstorms, she notes there is certainly the potential for a lot of rain over a small area.

Looking ahead to the early part of next week, Hasell says there is a threat of frost on the horizon. She notes overnight lows are expected to be +3 on Monday and all the way down to +1 on Tuesday.
