Two dogs became artists and all it took was a canvas, some paint, a ziplock bag, and lots of peanut butter!

Melissa Hildebrandt Thiessen and her pets, Kiwi and ‘Pistons puppy’ Paisley, all had a blast doing the activity together.

Hildebrandt Thiessen says she saw an online trend, and wanted to jump in on the fun.

“I have so many other dog friends on Instagram, and they were all doing these dog paintings, and I just thought it would be so cute,” she says. “I don't always have the energy to take the dogs out to run, so I thought, ‘oh, let's do an indoor activity and paint a picture.’”

She explains how the painting process works for dogs.

“I took and squirted a little bit of paint onto a canvas. And then we just carefully slipped those canvases into a plastic bag, and you put a little peanut butter on the plastic bag and set it down, and botta-bing botta-boom, you've got budding artists.”

She says Paisely even picked her own colours.

"So what I did is I have my two dogs, my little tiny 8 pound one (Kiwi) and my behemoth puppy (Paisley) that's at 40 pounds right now,” she says. “So the little one, she couldn't pick her own paints, but I let the puppy pick her own. So I lined up all the paint and she grabbed the container she wanted, so she picked her own color.”

The paintings are not yet on display in her house, as she is not sure if she should add to them or not.

"I was actually kind of debating on whether I should use my own flair on them a little bit, add a little bit of my own something-something to them.”

She says she also has to get the artists to sign their paintings.

“We got to do the paw print sign.”
