The Seine River School Division has recently made a few changes to their emergency and crisis response plan.

Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, Elaine Lochhead.

Assistant Superintendent of Student Services Elaine Lochhead, says one of the changes they've made, is the addition of a drill in the event of a tornado. "We've tweaked a few things, and learned a few things over the years about what's easier or better, and we've had to add in an evacuation drill for tornadoes, which we didn't have before. Part of it is knowing the structure of the building and where the safest places are if there's a tornado."

Another change in the emergency response plan is the addition of color-coded evacuation maps, located inside each of the schools. Lochhead says they also have to provide printed maps for substitute teachers and guests in the building. As part of their drills, Lochhead says, "We've had different Constables come in when we are doing a lockdown drill, so they have a chance to provide us with some feedback, if we need to tweak anything, and if we have missed something."

Lochhead says the emergency response plan is reviewed by the school board twice each year to make sure they are up to date on a variety of information, to make sure they have the safest environment for their students.
