A recent immigrant from Iran says he understands what many Ukrainian families are going through and feels deeply for them.

Bijan Babaie and his family moved from Iran to Steinbach last winter. Having lived through a war himself, he notes he has great sympathy for the people of Ukraine.

"We are a bad experience with war. We had an eight-year war with Iraq. Now, all of the world wants to help Ukraine, but when we were at war, nobody helped us. I can say that there is not anything good in war. People want only to live in peace and not in war."

Babaie says it doesn’t matter who you are or what your economic situation is, your life is turned upside down when war breaks out.

"When the missiles came to Iran from Iraq, we had to leave Tehran at night. Every night we went out of the city and came back to Tehran in the morning so I absolutely know the Ukrainian people's situation, I can absolutely know that they have a very, very bad time now. Everybody in all of the world, I think, has to help them."
