The Hanover School Division Superintendent feels the new year will be monumental for education all across the province.

“There’s a really really big thing on the horizon, and that’s the upcoming comprehensive provincial education review,” explains Randy Dueck.

Over the next six months, Dueck expects that divisions all across Manitoba will be contacted by Manitoba Education and Training in order to participate in this review. According to Dueck, the information gathered from these consultations will be used to build a recommendation which will, eventually, change the shape of local education.

Dueck expects to begin seeing tangible progress come from this review by the close of 2019.

“Hopefully, at the end of this review, good things will happen all across the province, but also for Hanover School Division."

Meanwhile, Dueck says a lot is happening across the division on a practical level. “We are a school division that continues to grow and in response to that growth we need to build additional facilities for our kids.”

One of these projects includes the much anticipated Niverville Highschool; a facility scheduled to open its doors to students in September of this year. Dueck indicates that another major part of this process is re-branding the Niverville Collegiate into what will become the Niverville Middle School.

A second significant construction project is underway in Mitchell. While Dueck admits that the recently announced Mitchell Elementary School renovations are still in the design phase, the groundbreaking will still begin sometime this year. “If all goes really well here,” notes Dueck, “we will have a September 2020 opening of this addition.”
