The Head of Steinbach Parks and Recreation says the summer crew is now fully engaged and rolling along.

Russ Dyck notes “we've been working for the last number of weeks already, getting ready for flower planting and basket hanging. There's been a lot of spring cleanup on Main Street on the boulevards and some of the park's flowerbeds as well. Mowing and trimming has been ongoing, though it's been interrupted a few times with rain and wet conditions, but they're going full boar.”

Dyck says they have got a few landscaping projects planned this summer and playground equipment inspections to complete. He adds, the A.D. Penner Pond will also be receiving some TLC this year.

“We are looking at installing a fountain in the pond at A.D. Penner Park sometime later this summer or fall, not sure exactly the timing on that one yet, just to help with the aeration in the pond and also as a bit of an aesthetic feature.”

On a bit of a different note, Dyck says crews have already completed a number of upgrades at the T.G. Smith Arena this spring. He notes just because the Southeast Event Centre has been getting a lot of attention, doesn’t mean they’ve forgotten about the T.G. Smith.

“We've upgraded our lights there. We actually moved some of the equipment over from the old Centennial, we had installed LED lights there in the last couple of years, which are still in great condition, so we moved those over. The sound system was moved over as well. So, there should be an improved visual and audio scenario there as well.”
